Ive had external large Hemorrhoids for about 9yrs now and have had it, i wanna look into getting the surgery. I’ve treated many patients who have had this surgery and there is pain post op but mainly when there is a B.M. so it is important to make sure you do not get constipated. Take Colace or another stool softener on a set schedule to prevent this. Use witch hazel swabs to clean the area- it will help & is soothing.After the surgery they will give you pain medication- don’t be afraid to ask for it. Normally it takes 1-2 weeks to heal, but please get the Colace or it will take longer. Sometimes they do recur (can be hereditary so you can’t do anything about it ), so try to avoid straining which can cause the hemorrhoids. I had surgery about a year ago. There was some pain afterward. I was off work for about a week. After about 6 months my hemorrhoids returned.
